Meath Echo: Local Campaigner Chosen as FG Candidate
Meath Echo, June 23:
Local Candidate Chosen as FG Candidate
by Sinead Ryan
Dunboyne Campaigner Maria Murphy is expected to be selected as the Fine Gael candidate in the forthcoming local elections. With new constituency rules now making way for an extra councillor in the Dunshaughlin ward, of which Dunboyne is a part, Ms Murphy believes the seat is up for grabs.
It is not her first experience of the political arena as she stood previously as an Independent candidate ganering a respectable 671 first preference votes.
Ms. Murphy is well-known in the area and has campaigned locally on issues such as traffic volume, recycling and housing development.
She told the Meath Echo “I was recently approached by Fine Gael witha view to joining the organisation. I have now been appointed as Area Representative for Dunboyne and as such I am the local public face of Fine Gael in the area. I will be going forward for selection as a candidate in the next local elections. I believe there must be a change in the status quo on Meath County Council and that Fine Gael is the party to do this.”
Ms. Murphy has lived in Lutterell Hall in Dunboyne for the last 10 years.
