Gerry O’Connor spent 22 years working as a financial manager before starting his own business in 2002. Gerry has lived in Dunshaughlin since 1984 and has played an active part in the community through the residents’ associations, Dunshaughlin & District Chamber of Commerce, the Dunshaughlin Community Centre Building Fund Committee, Neighbourhood Watch and his passion is the Dunshaughlin Youths Football Club, with which he has been involved since its founding. He became the manager of the Dunshaughlin Community Centre in 2006. Gerry is married to Barbara and has one son, Robert.

Community Representation

  • Dunshaughlin needs an active advocate, who understands the issues facing voluntary groups, businesses and residents.
  • Gerry will listen empathically and respond decisively to provide better planning and services.

Planning

  • Community-led planning and enforcement, not developer-led speculatively driven planning.

Education and Arts

  • Provide support for leisure, arts and culture activities in Dunshaughlin, Coole, Culmullen, Kilmessan and Dunsany.
  • Fast-track the provision of school facilities, whether class-rooms, gyms or sporting equipment.

Agriculture

  • Campaign for rapid payments of the FWMS grants to which the government had already committed and which will bolster Ireland’s reputation as a pollution-free country.

Community Cohesion

  • Increase police presence through community Gardai and develop neighbourhood watch scheme.
  • Provide alternative activities and facilities for the 13 – 16 year olds, including community parks and skateboarding areas. 

Transport

  • Implement traffic calming measures through Local Area Plans and local by-laws.
  • Introduce park-‘n-ride facilities to boost QBCs
  • Improve bus service to Blanchardstown and Dublin.
     

Environment

  •  Maintain roads, paths and grass verges; enforce planning laws on incomplete developments.
