John Fanning

John Fanning has been nominated by the Ashbourne and Kilbride Fine Gael branches and  ratified by the Fine Gael party, to regain the council seat which he previously held up to 2004.

John is originally from Cork, but moved to Ashbourne in 1972. He has spent his career with Aer Lingus and has worked to develop the community in Ashbourne. He was a member of Meath County Council from 1991 until 2004. He  is the Chairman of Meath VEC and is on the Standing Council of the IVEA. He is on the Meath County Enterprise Board and the board of Meath Leader. He is the chairman of the Board of Management of Dunshaughlin Community College; is a past Chairman of the Board of the Community College in Ashbourne; and is a member of the board of the European School in Dunshaughlin. John is married to Mary and has four children.

John Fanning’s priorities include………

Education:

  • Build another second-level school in Ashbourne to cater for 2,200 additional children leaving primary school over the next five years.
  • Establish a second-level Gael Colaiste, to draw from the three Gaelscoileanna in the district.
  • Establish post-Leaving Certificate courses in Ashbourne, with links into business to boost skills and employment.

Transport:

  • Provide extra bus stops in north Ashbourne to cater for increased number of residents and employees in industrial parks.

Community Cohesion:

  • Introduce additional community Gardai to deal with youth as friends and counsellors rather than as adversaries.

Local Government:

  • Establish Ashbourne Urban Council to strengthen local democracy and give people a greater say locally.

Environment:

  • Provide a full recycling service in Ashbourne, Meath’s second-largest urban area.

Kilbride Area Requirements:

  • Ward River to be cleaned to eliminate flooding adjacent to National School.
  • Implement traffic calming measures to reduce hazards presented by commuters and HGVs.
  • Eliminate odours from pumping station during upgrade works.
